How to Save Money on Groceries?

Do you struggle to pay for groceries every month? If so, then you know how difficult it can be to shop for your family members and stick to a budget. We’ve compiled a list of the most effective grocery-saving strategies in order to make things easier on your wallet.

How to Save Money on Groceries

1) Shop at discount grocery stores: These stores typically carry high-quality deals on name brands and basic foods that are hard to find anywhere else.

2) Shop in bulk online: You won't have any problem finding what you need because these websites take the guesswork out of doing your shopping.

3) Ask for help: There are thousands of resources out there for people who need help with their grocery shopping bills. Take advantage of them!

4) Make a plan and stick to it: Giving yourself time limits will make your trip much more efficient.

5) Eat leftovers: They might not be the most exciting meals in the world, but they’re highly convenient and it’s easy to just heat them up in the microwave.

6) Use coupons for groceries: It takes a lot of time to clip coupons and search for sales, but it’s totally worth it if you can save money while doing so.

7) Buy in bulk: Unlike the grocery stores that we mentioned above, these huge facilities sell goods in bulk. The only drawback is how much time you’ll spend driving to and from the store!

8) Give your dog a vitamin pill: If you don’t have an extra $100 lying around to spend on pet food, don’t worry- your dog won’t miss out on anything. However, you might want to change your diet slightly to avoid any complications.

9) Shop online for groceries: Although there aren’t many sites selling groceries online, those that do are guaranteed to offer great deals on high-quality brands and basic goods.

10) Avoid frozen snacks: They’re delicious, but it’s not worth the money for a bag of frozen French fries. If you have a deep-fryer, then it’s a different story.

11) Choose fresh produce over canned goods: Although canned goods are extremely convenient, they just aren’t as good for you as those that have been freshly cooked. If you want to save money on groceries while still eating healthy, then this is the key to your success!

12) Buy carryout instead of eating out: Eating out is expensive and adds up quickly.

13) Buy large containers of condiments: You already know that those little spice bottles are a rip-off, so the next time you go shopping, buy a large bottle and refill your small one.

14) Join a CSA: It’s not only cheaper than going to the grocery store every week, but it’s also fresher.

15) Eat fruits and veggies that are in season: Out-of-season produce is more expensive than its in-season counterpart because it’s harder to ship.

Should you Buy Groceries Online?

Should you Buy Groceries Online

While a very common practice these days, it's important to always read the fine print before you sign up for anything.

For example, when I think of the average person's thoughts about grocery shopping online, I mostly think of someone who is lazy and prefers to not go out and physically shop. That is a perfectly valid viewpoint but should you really be using websites like Amazon Fresh or Instacart when your local grocery store only charges 50% of those prices? It might be wise not to until benefits outweigh such risks as having to deal with heavy traffic or waiting in line at the cashier.
