ommission or payment to a dealer or other indirect loan source as compensation for generating the loan. The commission or "dealer reserve" can be computed by a number of different methods.

The balance sheet, form FR 34, shows in detail the assets, liabilities, and

capital accounts of the Federal Reserve Banks and certain additional information such as U.S. Government deposits with special depositaries, collateral and custodies held, classifications of "Other deposits--Miscellaneous," and certain memorandum accounts.

The difference between the bank's "buy rate" and the interest rate charged o

n the loan at the dealership was placed into a dealer reserve and was intended to be distributed to the dealer over the life of each loan. However, in many cases reserves were made available to the dealer after the vehicle had been repossessed.

A Finance Reserve is when a financing company pays you, the dealer, either a

percentage of the total amount a customer finances through them on a deal, or a flat amount.

Dealer reserve can be defined as interest points that usually constitute two

to four interest points added to the interest rate, and can tack on thousands to the price of a car and increase one's monthly payments by $30, $50 or more.
