ign standards for motors, has established a NEMA Code letter designation to classify motors by the ratio of locked rotor kVA per horsepower.

Code For motors less than ½ horsepower, the code letter on the nameplate re

presents the locked-rotor kVA. On larger motors, it identifies the locked-rotor kVA per horsepower. NEMA Stds. MG 1, 10.37.2, defines the latter codes using a series of letters from A to V.

NEMA code letters designate the classification of electrical motors by the r

atio of locked rotor kVA per horsepower. Generally, smaller motors require a higher starting kVA than larger motors. The kVA required by a motor starting at full voltage can be determined from the manufacturer, or from the nameplate on the motor.

The IP code is rarely mentioned, especially for the junction box of solar mo
