The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) is based on a 300 point scale. There a

re 3 different events involved in the APFT. These include a 2 mile run, 2 minutes of push ups, and 2 minutes of situps. Each of these events is worth 100 points.

The Army Physical Fitness Test may not be the easiest category to max out bu

t it is the fastest. Most units will let you take a PT test anytime if you request one. If you max it out, you get 160 points. If you just barely pass with a score of 60 in each category, you get a measly 40 points. This is a big difference.

Look for the score from your last Physical Training (PT) test. If you got th

e maximum 300 points, you have 50 promotion points. If you scored lower than 300, you have fewer promotion points. For a complete list of the promotion points you got for your score, look at table 3-20 on page 48 of Army Regulation 600-8-19.

Army Physical Fitness Test. The APFT in not the easiest category to max out

but it is the fastest. It is a one time thing. Kill yourself that one day and you can carry that score with you for the next year as far as promotion points. There is a huge difference between the amount of Army promotion points you get if you only pass and if you max out.

1 or the S1 forgets to upload that PT test to IPERMS. Also, if you have a permanent Profile for the Run, IAW AR 600-8-19 CH 3-42 states that you should divide the sit-ups and push-ups score and get the average for the alternate event for promotion points purposes.
